My cupboards became full of pumpkin-y ingredients this fall: pumpkin pie filling, canned pumpkin, pumpkin butter. It was time for a week of pumpkin desserts. This is the first one my made, and also my favorite. Earl Grey tea is a common ingredient that I use because I love it so much, and it worked beautifully for this recipe. The original recipe called for Chai frosting, but I chose Earl Grey instead, and goodness gracious do I want to eat it every day. (more…)

Oh my goodness gracious. I have found the best drink I have ever tasted. It combines my favorite tea with my favorite summer drink; if you like Arnold Palmers, you’ll like this lemonade made with Earl Grey tea. (Kelly Prizel, you need to try this immediately!)
I was inspired to make the original recipe using lavender and rosemary, but on this hot summer day, neither were to be found in our cupboard. We did, however, still have a ton of loose Earl Grey tea. We decided to give this a shot.
The resulting drink has the lemon tang with a soothing floral citrus flavor, and a hint of bergamot. If you like sweeter lemonades, then definitely add more sugar – this recipe is for a very tart, fresh lemonade. The tea isn’t overwhelming; it just adds a really subtle and new flavor that’s incredibly refreshing. (more…)
Pear and Earl Grey Tea Crumble Cake
Recipe: Spicy Ice Cream's Pear and Earl Grey Cumble Cake
Total time: 1 hour baking, 1 hour prep
Ease: Intermediate
Unusual ingredients: pears, sour cream, Earl Grey, orange peel
In my last tea post for June, I’m falling in love with poaching fruit in nontraditional poaching syrup. Here, we poached six pears (actually, I had an extra two to use up, so I tossed them in as well) in Earl Grey tea. And goodness gracious, was it delicious.
The Earl Grey tea really cuts the sweetness of the whole cake down. It’s not quite savory, but you can absolutely taste the tea in the pears when the whole thing is put together. Earl Grey is one of my favorites, so I was eager to see how it played with the fruit and the butter crumble on top. This is easily one of my favorite-tasting cakes to date.
