Earl Grey Chocolate Cupcakes with Lavender Frosting

Recipe: What We're Eating's Fudgy Earl Grey Chocolate Cake
Total time: 30 minutes
Ease: easy
Unusual ingredients: earl gray tea, buttermilk

Eager to use my homemade lavender extract, I baked up a whole bunch of different kinds of Earl Grey cupcakes to pair with a lavender buttercream frosting. I purchased a ton of loose Earl Grey tea from and went to town!

These cupcakes were supremely easy to make. Of the two kinds of Earl Grey cupcakes that I baked, these were the winners in my book – the perfect texture and hint of Earl Grey. I baked the cupcakes for 20 minutes (the original recipe is for a cake). I liked this recipe because it required a grinding up of the Earl Grey, which meant I didn’t need to have it in bags.

The lavender frosting is simply buttercream frosting with two tablespoons of homemade lavender extract. I might go with just one tablespoon next time – the flavor of the frosting was extraordinarily floral, which I liked, but others didn’t!
