Sweet Sweet Potatoes

Recipe: Sweet Lydia's Sweet Sweet Potatoes
Total time: 1.5 hours
Ease: easy
Unusual ingredients: cranberries, marshmallows, sweet potato

I’m so excited to announce that one of my favorite people ever, Lydia of Sweet Lydia’s, has just created a cookbooklet. And I was lucky enough to do the photography for it!

Lydia and I cooked up tons of recipes for this book over the course of two weekends. We’d intended to do it in one, but made the mistake of trying everything as we went, resulting in a sugar coma that left us unable to complete the book. But we learned our lesson, and finished everything up before eating everything in sight the second time!

This recipe is from the book, and was my personal favorite to photograph. The result is buttery sweet potato and juicy cranberries in a mason jar or ramekin, with a beautifully-toasted marshmallow on top. You can use any size jar, but I really liked half pints with a marshmallow baked inside in addition to the one on top! (more…)

Blueberry Pies in Mason Jars

Recipe: Brooklyn Supper's Cherry and Blueberry Star Pies in Jars
Total time: 2 hours
Ease: Intermediate
Unusual ingredients: blueberries, lemon zest, lemon juice, tapioca

Few things are more beautiful, I think, than these sweet little blueberry pies in mason jars, complete with little stars for the Fourth of July.

My husband and I are fortunate enough to have very loving relatives (his parents, my in-laws) on Cape Cod. We needed to escape for a relaxing weekend leading up to Independence Day, and they received us with open arms. I was eager to bake something 4th-of-July-y, and I also knew that my mother in law has a bunch of mason jars that would be the perfect size for us to bake in. This recipe was a terrific match.

The cottage that we baked in was perfect. The feeling of the home was all about love and family. Their property evokes some history and nostalgia; it makes the perfect getaway from my normal life of computers and Internet and 24 hour access. (more…)

Found: my new favorite store

Did you like the cute milk glass from yesterday’s post? I purchased it from my new favorite store, , located in Lowell, MA!

I went to Found’s physical shop, but am eager to keep up to date with their Etsy listings as well so I can sneak in and grab things that may look great for this blog. I picked up the milk bottle as well as two itty bitty dishes. The dishes are ideal for showcasing a cookie or a cupcake, and I’m on the hunt to find more like them!

When we went in, we were pleasantly surprised by the organization and quality of the items there. There’s a ton of baking antiques, as well as some really adorable old kitchen goods! The owner, who we spoke with at length, was incredibly friendly and genuinely interested in what we were working on. It makes us feel so good to buy local, and to buy from someone who loves what they do!

You can check out their Yelp reviews (they have a four and a half star rating!).
